Gas prices have continued to surge this week both locally as well as across western Pennsylvania as a whole.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of Monday, increased by 19 cents over the past week to reach at $4.71 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole rose by 18 cents during that same time to arrive at $4.70. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in Sharon at $4.67, while the most expensive is $4.75 in Altoona.
The average national gas price increased by 11 cents over the past week to reach $4.59 which is over a dollar more than when Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24th. According to AAA, high prices at the pump continue to be driven by a still rising cost for crude oil as well as increased demand for gas.
