Genevieve “Jenny” Chernick, 91, of Butler, PA, died Tuesday, Aug.
1, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot after a short illness.
Born March 13, 1926 in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of
Thomas Sr. and Anna Marie Massaro Costa. She married Sarge
Chernick on Oct. is, 1949. He died June 22, 2009.
Primarily a homemaker, Jenny was proud of her Italian heritage
and was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening. A member of North
Street Christian Church, she worked outside the home for Castle
Rubber, Morgan’s Restaurants, and later for the Butler Public Library.
In her later years, she developed an avid interest in politics and would
frequently be heard participating in radio talk shows locally and
regionally.
Her survivors include two daughters, Sharon Chernick of Butler
and Pamela (Doug) Balensiefen of Purcelleville, VA; a granddaughter,
Shannon Fineran of Washington, DC; and a grandson, Connor Fineran of
Purcelleville, VA.
She is also survived by three siblings, Rebecca Oravecz of Butler,
Thomas Costa of Eau Claire, and Rose Majeroni of Erie, as well as
numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by
sisters Mary Aiken, Lena Turk, Lucy Courtney, Clara Wimberly and
Josephine Turk, and brothers Samuel Costa, Carmen Costa, and
John Costa.
Friend will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m Friday, and from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon Saturday. Funeral Services will then follow at 12:00 noon, at the Funeral Home. The Rev. Bob Huber, will officiate. Internment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.
