George E. Brothers, 82, of Chicora, passed away peacefully while in the company of his loving family early Thursday morning, April 10, 2025 in the emergency department at Butler Memorial Hospital.
George was born in Parker on September 1, 1942. He was the son of the late Samuel W. Sr. and Mildred Yeager Brothers. George graduated from Karns City Area High School in 1960, earned a degree in Chemistry Education from Clarion University in 1964, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era and a longtime active member of the Dierken Ritzert American Legion Post #642 of Chicora where served the post as treasurer and was an active participant with the post’s funeral honor guard. George was a Chicora borough Councilman for more than thirty years and had served as council president. George was a long time active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in America in Butler where he served as a deacon.
Mr. Brothers was employed as a lab manager at Penreco in Karns City. George retired as a specialty chemist following 38 years of service.
George is survived by his wife, Laura J. Fair Brothers, whom he married in Butler on April 11, 1968. Also surviving are two children, Dr. Edward Nathaniel Brothers and his wife, Nicole, of West Hartford, CT and Gretchen Brothers Klavon and her husband, Scott, of Sewickley; three grandchildren, Henry Stockton Brothers, Anna Bellatrix Brothers and Margaret Brothers; two step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; a brother, Samuel W. Brothers Jr. of Fairview; a sister-in-law, Sherri Brothers of Fairview; a brother-in-law, James Weis of Titusville, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Samuel Brothers, a sister, Loretta Weis, two brothers, Richard and Robert Brothers, as well as a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 4-7p.m. Sunday, and on Monday from 10 -10:45 a.m. at the Westminster Church (PCA), 420 N. Main St., Butler. Members of the Chicora and Bradys Bend American Legion Posts will conduct military honors at 10:45 a.m. at the church. A funeral service will follow from the church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dwight Dunn, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Varnum Cemetery, North Washington.
