Gerald “Jerry” W. DeArmitt of Butler passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021 peacefully in his home in Chestnut Ridge at the age of 94.
Born 19 May 1926 in Huntington, PA, he was the son of the late William and Charlotte (Hess) DeArmitt.
He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during WWII from 1943-1946 as an Aviation Radioman and Signalman on a TBF Avenger Torpedo Bomber in Brazil. After returning home from the Navy, he met the love of his life Ada and were married for 71 years.
Gerald owned and operated the K L Motel and Mobile Home Court in Butler and Prospect. Jerry and Ada retired in 1986 to travel the U.S. in their motorhome and enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida.
He enjoyed trap shooting, fishing, and deer hunting. He was an avid turkey hunter, gardener, and loved spending time outdoors.
Gerald was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Butler, the Butler Hunting and Fishing Club, Victory Lodge of Butler, and New Castle Consistory of the Free Masons.
He is preceded in death by his parents William and Charlotte and brother James V. DeArmitt. Survived by his wife, Ada DeArmitt, three children Teresa (Keith) Snell, Duane (Patti) DeArmitt, and Bonnie (Alan) Peffer. Loving Grandfather to nine grandchildren, Brian, Eve, Staci, Jennifer, Adam, Eric, Andrea, Isaac, Brandon and Great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren, Braylan, Layton, Ellie, Patrick, Mazzie, Emslie, Ashton, Jayda, Riley, Jazmyn, Josiah, Estelle, and Michael.
There will be no public visitation of funeral services.
Burial will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
