Historic Saxonburg will be getting a visit by a German official this week.
German Consul General David Gill is planning on attending Mingle on Main on Thursday, August 18th. He will be the highest-ranking German representative to ever visit the historic borough founded by German immigrants John Augustus and Carl F. Roebling in 1832.
The invitation for him to visit actually started with State Representative Marci Mustello when Mr. Gill was a guest of honor speaking on the House floor.
Mustello told our newsroom, “He started talks about the relationship between American and Germany, business, economic partnerships that we have going on and then he narrowed it down to Pennsyslvania. Then he narrowed it down further, to when he started talking on the floor of the house about John Roebling and Saxonburg. I walked up to him and said I happen to represent Saxonburg. It was a couple of weeks later, I’d emailed him….I’d love for you to come to Saxonburg. We have these Mingles on Main. We’d love to have you there. It all kind of started like that.”
Mr. Gill works in the New York City Consulate office with his jurisdiction covering New York, New Jersey, part of Connecticut, Bermuda, and Pennsylvania. He was appointed August 2017 and previously served as State Secretary and Head of the Office of the Federal German President between 2012-2017.
