Gertrude B. Byers Flick, 96, a life-long, well-known Chicora resident, passed away peacefully at the Chicora Medical Center on Thursday, June 10, 2021, with her family by her side.
Gertrude was born in Chicora on December 25, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Simon and Gertrude Callaghan Byers.
She retired in 1993 from the Dietary Department of Butler Memorial Hospital. She also volunteered for many years at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Butler.
Surviving is a daughter, Judy Callihan of Chicora, and a son, Joseph Flick and his wife, Linda, of Brockway; her grandchildren, Matthew Callihan and his wife, Darlene, of Butler, Dr. Beth Ann Callihan Ricci and her husband, Dr. Armando Ricci, of Erie, Breanna Flick of Las Vegas, NV, Natalie Carey and her husband, John, of Mountaintop, and Sarah Allen and her husband, Joshua, of Ridgway; her great grandchildren, Olivia Ricci, Cecelia Carey, and Rosalie and Tyler Allen; her step grandchildren, Jessica Stack and her husband, Ryan, Michael Graham and his wife, Cortney, and Allison Mortimer and her husband, Michael; her step great grandchildren, Nolan and Caleb Graham, and Lena and Josephine Mortimer, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Lawrence Byers, Clarence “Joe” Byers, Bernard Byers, Allen Byers, and Ray Byers; three sisters, Ethel Byers Black, Ruth Byers Kaylor, and Grace Byers, and a son-in-law, Richard L. Callihan.
family and close friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from Noon – 1:00 p.m. Saturday (today). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (today) at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora, with the Rev. Louis Pascazi, Senior Parochial Vicar at St. Clair of Assisi Parish, officiating. Interment will follow in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
