Today is a special edition of Giving Tuesday, where people are encouraged to donate to organizations impacted by the coronavirus.
“It is a new way to ask people to give around the pandemic that’s in addition to the traditional Giving Tuesday,” Amy Franz, executive director of the Butler chapter of the United Way, said.
Giving Tuesday is typically held in early December, but Franz says today was created because the current climate has significantly restricted non-profits from doing any fundraising.
“All organizations now that are in the fundraising arena have really been impacted by the pandemic,” Franz said. “They can’t have events, they can’t have gatherings, and are struggling to have face-to-face conversations with prospective donors.”
Social media users are encouraged to use the #GivingTuesdayNow to help spread awareness.
