Gloria Shaffer, 73, of Butler passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024. She was born in Butler on September 17, 1950, to the late Herbert and Sarah (Smith) Shaffer. Gloria attended Butler High School and graduated from Slippery Rock University; in 1983 she honorably joined the Army Reserve and later graduated from BC3 RN program in 1988. She retired from the VA hospital in 2013 and after her retirement she remained as a caretaker to her community. Gloria was the foundation of her family and had a deep passion for end-of-life care and was an advocate for people in recovery. In her free time, she was a First United Methodist Church Hospital volunteer. Gloria was the beloved wife of the late John Slater; mother of Nicole Leight; sister of Sandra (Ron) Frees, George (Mary) Shaffer, Kirby Shaffer, Kevin Albert and Betty Ann (Robin) Reiser, grandmother of Katie Nicole, Devin (Marilyn), Emilee, Darrion and Lyrik (Christian) Frisby; great grandmother of Amelia, Graesyn, Tiger, Jonah, Greyson, Liam, Dakota and Izabella, and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Gloria was preceded in death by Edward Leight; her daughter, Danielle Leight; granddaughter Haley Leight; and her siblings, Timmy Albert, Chary Goral and Michael Shaffer. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 6-7:30 PM at the SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 NEW CASTLE RD. BUTLER, PA 16001. WWW.SPENCERDGEIBEL.COM.
