The Butler Track & Field teams took home seven gold medals at the WPIAL 3A championships Wednesday held at Slippery Rock University.
–Guinness Brown took the 100 & 200-meter runs and was runner-up in the 400. Brown was just the fourth athlete in 20-plus years to take both the 100 & 200 events in 3A.
–Skylar Vavro won the 1600-meter run ahead of teammate CJ Singleton. Singleton won the 3200.
–Landon Kretzer won the Javelin.
–The Golden Tornado boys won the 3200 Relay.
–Emma Lehman won the Triple-A Girls 300-Hurdles. She finished third in the 100-Hurdles.
–The Seneca Valley Boys won the 400-relay.
In the 2A championships, also at SRU –
–North Catholic’s Trevor Paschall earned four gold medals. He is just the third sprinter in WPIAL history to do so. Paschall won the 100, 200 & 400-meter runs and was anchor leg on North Catholic’s 400-relay.
Other top finishers: (Top Three advance to PIAA)
–Knoch’s Mike Formica was runner-up in the 800-meter run. He broke the Knoch school record in the event, previously set by Brian Tacket in 2008. Formica also took third in the 1600-meter run.
–Seneca Valley’s Luke Simpson was third in the 800.
–Tyler Yurich of Seneca Valley was runner-up in the 3A 100-meter run. He also took second in the High Jump.
–Butler’s Byron Manchester was runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles.
–Samantha Penrod was runner-up in the Pole Vault.
–Tara Lucot of North Catholic was runner-up in the 400 run and was third in the 800.
–Matt Laslavic of Seneca Valley was 2nd in the Triple Jump.
–Butler’s Tristan McGarrah was 2nd in the Pole Vault.
–The Butler Boys 1600-relay team were runner-up.
–Aiden Kutchma of Seneca Valley-third in the 300 Hurdles
–Nick Hemer of Seneca Valley and Butler’s Jordan Stutz were third in the High Jump.
–Josh Rohland of Knoch was third in the Shot Put.
