Governor Josh Shapiro was in Butler for the second time in a month yesterday but this time he made an announcement that will impact the labor market.
While at the Laborers Training Center in Saxonburg, Governor Shapiro announced a new directive that all commonwealth agencies will have to adhere to Project Labor Agreements (PLAs).
The agreements will be for certain construction projects and they aim to increase efficiency and create a safer workplace.
The governor wants this new directive to lead to more PLAs and he believes it will benefit the commonwealth.
“This new directive is an important first step to implementing more PLAs and getting these benefits for the taxpayers, workers, and the entire Commonwealth,” Shapiro said.
But currently this directive will only impact the state agencies but the governor said if the state house were to pass bill Shapiro would sign it.
The directive officially goes into effect April 1.
