Governor Tom Wolf yesterday announced details of his plan to reopen the Commonwealth, with a targeted start date of May 8.
It won’t happen all at once; the administration will categorize reopening into three phases: red, yellow, and green.
Phases will be assigned based on conditions in a designated county or region. Officials will first study conditions in the northwest and north central parts of the state, hoping to move them from red to yellow on May 8.
“There’s no single tool we will use to determine reopenings, rather we will look at several pieces to ensure our case count is under control and that we have the local support to manage the cases and outbreaks,” Gov. Wolf said.
House Speaker Mike Turzai, Republican from the North Hills of Allegheny County, also commented last night on the governor’s announcement allowing public and private construction projects to resume next week on May 1.
Turzai said he and Wolf had a positive discussion yesterday, and that “working with him on this issue showed that we can move forward together on fighting COVID-19 while rebuilding the economy.”
