Governor Tom Wolf says he has no plans to rescind the state’s school mask mandate anytime soon.
Wolf spoke to reporters yesterday one month after instituting the mask requirement inside schools. He initially said he would reassess the order in October, but that changed after the vaccine still wasn’t approved for children.
“I said that because the betting was that 12 and under would be approved with an Emergency Use Authorization for the vaccine,” Wolf said. “I’m not sure that’s going to happen in October.”
So is there an adjusted timeline on the mask mandate? Wolf says that all depends on the vaccine.
“Yesterday I was with some other governors and they’ve been hearing November. So, I think the key is not so much the date, but when the vaccine becomes available to all school children and how fast we can get them vaccinated.” Wolf did say that he is encouraged by the latest data in COVID cases.
