Two new bills are now law in Pennsylvania that will reform local police departments.
Governor Wolf signed the bills yesterday. One requires police departments to disclose employment histories of their officers, including all disciplinary actions and complaints.
Senator Jay Costa of Allegheny County was one of the bill’s sponsors and details other aspects of the new law.
“De-escalation and arm reduction techniques; instructions in community and cultural awareness; understanding implicit bias and procedural justice; and reconciliation techniques,” Costa said.
The bills come amid national protests surrounding police brutality.
