A longtime church in Downtown Butler has closed but members continue to give back to the community through a Legacy Plan.
The process to liquidate assets of Grace @ Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church on the Diamond has resulted in a large amount of money that the Church Council has chosen to distribute to several sources including the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul in Butler.
Earlier this week Church Council President Jim Thompson delivered a check for $30,000 to the organization with the request that it be used to benefit those less fortunate in the Butler community.
Other money has been donated to the City of Butler as well as charities that help with clean water in third world countries and will be donated to Camp Lutherlyn next month.
Grace @ Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church held their last service in February and the facility has been sold to Glade Run Lutheran Services.
