Grants applications will be made available tomorrow for community institutions for laptops to “help close the digital divide” in Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) announced that $20 million have been made available for laptops. Grants will be awarded to areas where affordability has been identified as a barrier to broadband adoption and organizations that will make technology available to those who lack access to the internet.
Several entities are elidable for the grant including libraries, municipalities, workforce training organizations, and non-profit organizations. Applicants must also provide digital skills training through a free program of their own or a free option through the PBDA website.
The funding for the state program was made available through the American Rescue Plan Capital Projects Funding.
Application reviews will begin in August of this year and awards will be announced in November with awards being handed out in early 2025. Online applications are now available.
