The Butler Area School District has received a state grant that will go toward helping to connect students with agriculture.
The PA Department of Agriculture recently awarded the district with a $15,000 as part of the Farm to School grant program, which aims to improve access to healthy local foods as well as increase opportunities for young children to experience agriculture learning.
Butler will use the funding to allow FFA students to guide kindergarten students on trips to local agricultural locations. Funds will also be used for From Our Farms to Your Arms evening events at elementary schools so that local communities can sample locally grown products.
A total of 48 projects across the state were awarded nearly a half million dollars in funding through this program.
