Funding from the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission will help with a couple of Butler County transportation projects.
A $575,000 Livability Through Smart Transportation Program grant will go towards a $1.8 million PennDOT project to widen the shoulder of Franklin Road in Cranberry from four to five feet in order to better accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
A nearly $280,000 grant has been awarded to Butler County in order to complete the final phase of a $350,000 Main Street Streetscape project to connect the Transit Authority terminal with sidewalks, crosswalks, benches, and bike racks.
In total, the Commission awarded nearly $9 million in grants for 16 projects across 10 counties.
