For the first time since before the start of the Covid 19 Pandemic one local grocer is starting to see price increases slow down.
Doug Sprankle is the owner of Sprankle’s Market in Saxonburg and he says he has begun to see a slowdown in price increases. Although, the war in Ukraine is still impacting the price of bread, Sprankle also that buyers are buying based off prices rather than the big-name national brand.
But the real change that Sprankle has notice has been the change from going out to eat to cooking at home.
“Since the early 90s, it’s been a push toward restaurants. But because of the shut downs and people getting into the cooking culture, we’ve definitely seen continued fresh sales and other areas where traditional cooking is taking hold,” Sprankle said.
Sprankle did say the deli, bakery, and meat produce prices have begun to drop. Nationally inflation is trending at 3%.
