Ground was formally broken on a new memorial dedicated to first responders at Alameda Park.
The ceremony was held Friday afternoon as dozens gathered to commemorate the project.
County Commissioner and Butler AM Rotary member Kevin Boozel said this idea came about years ago as a way to honor those who have fallen in the line of duty.
The memorial will include the names of the first responders in the county who died while on the job.
There is also a brand new pavilion currently under construction according to county parks and recreation director Lance Welliver. He says the new pavilion will be twice the size of the original pavilion.
Welliver says the shelter will hopefully open by this summer. The memorial is expected to be dedicated this fall
