Harry C. Burtner, 93, of Butler, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born on the family farm in Jefferson Township on June 2, 1929, to the late Forest H. Burtner and the late Mary Lena (Giles) Burtner. He was the last of seventeen children.
Harry attended the one room Heller School and then graduated from Butler High School. Following graduation, he and his brother, Vance bought and ran the family farm. Harry delivered vegetables and eggs to many families in Butler, where many still remember him as “The Eggman”.
Harry attended Thorn Creek United Methodist Church his entire life, teaching Sunday School, and holding many church offices. He was proud of his children and grandchildren, who continue in service to the Lord.
Harry enjoyed gardening, fishing, and bird watching.
He is survived by his children, Kathy (Norm) Hamilton, Connie (Randall) Cypher, Raylene (John) Miller, Colleen (John) Borcz, and Dean Burtner; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jean.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie L. Taylor, whom he married on February 16, 1952, and who passed away on April 25, 2001; two sons; and his sixteen siblings.
Friends will be received on Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North St. Butler, PA 16001,
A funeral service will be held Monday, April 17, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Thorn Creek United Methodist Church, 142 Rockdale Road, Butler, PA 16002, with Pastor Amanda Mitchell, officiating.
