Hazel G. Mourer Endlish, 93, a long time Chicora resident and retired nursing director, went to be with the Lord late Tuesday evening, March 14, 2023 at her home while surrounded by her loving family.
Hazel was born in Unionville, Center Twp., on October 20, 1929. She was the daughter of the late John Dunlap and Sylvia Marie McCandless Wise.
She was a 1947 graduate of Butler High School and had earned a degree as a registered nurse from The Butler Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. Hazel had served as the Director of Nursing at the Chicora Medical Center for more than 25 years where she was well liked and highly respected among the medical center’s staff, patients and their families.
Hazel joined the Chicora United Methodist Church in 1951 and has been one of the church’s longest serving member. The church was a very important part of Hazel’s life. She was most especially active in the Cheerful Worker’s Sunday School Class and church choir. She was a member of the Treble Cleff Music Club and enjoyed singing and playing the piano as well as knitting, reading, and flower gardening.
Hazel was married to Robert L. Mourer on September 15, 1951 in The Unionville Presbyterian Church. Mr. Mourer preceded her in death on October 21, 1979.
Surviving are her children, Nancy C. Culley and her husband, Dennis, Daniel L. Mourer and his wife, Peggy, Gary R. Mourer and his wife, Penny, and Linda J. Beck and her husband, George, all of Chicora; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and Hazel was looking forward to the birth of her 14th great grandchild soon; two sisters, L. Jean Brown of Butler and Martha Gilliland Weitzel of Wake Forest, NC; a sister-in-law, Garnet E. Clark of Oakmont, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her second husband, Albert Endlish, a brother, Jack L. Wise; two sisters, Thelma Fleeger and Nancy Lutz, as well as a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday from the Chicora United Methodist Church, Central Ave., Chicora, with the Rev. Beverly Roscoe, church pastor, officiating (there will be no viewing at church). Interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery.
