State officials are encouraging residents to learn more about the opioid reversal drug Naloxone.
The health department released data showing that Naloxone helped in nearly 23,000 overdoses since 2017.
Naloxone is FDA approved and rapidly reverses an opioid overdose by quickly restoring breathing to a person if their breathing has either slowed or stopped.
Through a state program, Naloxone is distributed to organizations or individuals who may encounter someone experiencing an overdose.
The health department also encourages residents to talk with local pharmacies about ways to get Naloxone in order to help people who need it.
