The Pennsylvania Department of Health is reminding parents to test their children for lead poisoning.
In Pennsylvania over 156,000 children under 72 months of age were tested for lead poisoning in 2021, 3% of those came back with elevated blood lead levels.
Children are most exposed to lead from paint that has dried and turned to dust but it could include toys, ceramics, and drinking water that flowed through older lead pipes.
According to acting Secretary of Health Dr. Debra Bogen the best test for children is a blood test and early identification can prevent serious effects.
