When the leaves begin to fall, many will be spending time outdoors raking their yards.
Health experts say those are generally areas where you could be more exposed to ticks.
They encourage you to wear light-colored clothing to help better identify ticks, tuck your pants into your socks, and use insect repellent.
The fall is also a chance to reduce the number of ticks in your yard next spring.
“Ticks like to survive under that leaf litter because it holds moisture,” Nicole Chinnici, director of tick research at East Stroudsburg University, said. “So simply removing the leaf litter from your yard will help reduce tick survival in the winter months and reduce the number of ticks you see the following year.”
Tick bites can lead to issues like Lyme Disease and other tick-borne illnesses.
