State health officials are encouraged by the number of eligible children who have received the COVID-19 vaccine.
Right now, children 12 and over are eligible for the COVID vaccine. Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam details the numbers. “For eligible adolescents, 21.9 percent of children 12 to 14 are fully vaccinated. And 42.6 percent of children 15 to 19 are fully vaccinated. We need to keep making progress on vaccinations,” Beam said.
As Pfizer awaits approval for the vaccine for kids 5 through 11, Beam is encouraging school districts to prepare for clinics to help administer shots.
“It’s not too early to schedule a vaccination clinic in October for students 12 and older, and again in November in anticipation of full approval for kids 5 through 11,” Beam said. COVID vaccines are being administered five-days-a-week at Butler Health System.
