The case against the man accused in the Tree of Life shooting is moving forward.
Evidentiary hearings in United States vs Robert Bowers are scheduled to begin today at 10 a.m. in a Pittsburgh Courtroom. Earlier this year, the judge gave defense lawyers for 49-year-old Bowers until October 1st to decide whether or not to file an insanity defense.
The Justice Department is seeking the death penalty in the case—while Bowers attorneys say they are asking for a plea deal to spare Bowers’ life. Bowers is still being held in the Butler County Prison.
October 27th will mark three years since the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting in Squirrel Hill.
