Butler County and all of Western Pennsylvania is set to receive a long stretch of warm weather this week.
Temperatures are projected to be in the 90s all week long, with heat index values around 100 on some days.
David Shallenberger is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service and he says a “dome of high pressure” is building over the area.
“It’s going to build, strengthen and to sit over us. And what that generally allows is no precipitation and dry weather. That also allows for a lot of heat in the area,” Shallenberger said.
Shallenberger also says that this will be a rare weather event due to the how dry conditions will be and the longevity.
“Our moisture isn’t going to be that high for this period of time. It’s just the warm temperatures and the duration of it. We have highs in the mid-90s all this week,” Shallengerber said. “It’s just the longevity of this weather event is what is going to impact it.”
Shallenberger said to prepared for the potential of brownouts during the heat wave and to also check with county officials for cooling zones if you have limited access to air conditioning.
