Herbert W. “Bud” Wellman, age 93, of Butler, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, March 7.
Born in Rockport, Maine on September 21, 1924, he was the son of the late Herbert Augustus and Ella Patterson Wellman.
Bud was a member of Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Merchant Marine and the U. S. Army. He received 7 decorations during World War II while serving in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediterranean Middle East war zones. He twice survived the sinking of ships at sea in order to continue to answer the call of his country.
He was employed for 21 years as a sales representative for Riverside Manufacturing Company.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline D. Wellman; five children, Herbert Wellman, Jr. and his partner, Jill Cooper, of Mars, Mary Anne Bryndal and her husband, Gerard, of Savannah, GA, Robert C. Wellman and his wife, Rebecca, of Butler, Paul C. Wellman and his wife, Penny, of The Woodlands, TX, and Timothy C. Wellman and his wife, Vivian, of Bradenton, FL.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Ryan Wellman, Rebecca Snider, Anna Christine Schroeder, Robert D. Wellman, Maria Wellman, Kaelan Wellman, Kieran Wellman, Cassandra Wellman and Zachary Wellman; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five sisters.
Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Avenue, Butler, on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 1 p.m. from Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 North McKean Street, Butler.
Burial will take place in Butler County Memorial Park.
Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by V.F.W. Post 249, American Legion Post 117, and American Legion Post 778.
Saint Paul Catholic Women and Christian Mothers will meet at the church on Saturday at 12:35 p.m. to recite the rosary.
