Its high school musical season around the Butler County area and several local schools are kicking things off over the next few days. Karns City Musical Director Beth Ackelson:
“We’re doing the Sound of Music March 8th, 9th, and 10th. Saturday the 10th, we’ll have a matinee at 2 and an evening performance at 7:30. The other nights, Thursday and Friday, we have 7:30 performances. Some of the performances are getting down to just a few tickets here and there but if anybody really wants to come to the show, come Thursday night, for some reason that’s the night that’s not selling as well.”
Tickets to see the classic musical The Sound of Music at Karns City High School this weekend are $9 presale and $10 at the door.
Knoch High School is also staging their musical this weekend with performances Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. After the big musical numbers of 42nd Street last year, director Jen Bronder says that the music of this year’s show, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, is interwoven with the plot.
“I think that the music is a lot more rooted in the characters and it goes through a variety of styles. There’s a Latin dance number, there is kind of a hip-hop number in it, there is a number that’s kind of a funny tribute to Oklahoma in the style of an Oklahoma number so it’s all over the place musically.”
Finally, Seneca Valley will perform their high-flying all-school musical, Tarzan, this weekend with shows beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, as well as 2 p.m. matinee shows Saturday and Sunday in the Seneca Valley Intermediate High School Auditorium.
