High School Sports:
The Butler high school Indoor Track & Field Teams had a record setting day Sunday at the Pennsylvania Indoor State Championships at Penn State University. The girls team broke three school records and the boys broke one record.
–Senior Noah Beveridge led Butler with a runner-up finish in the mile run. He mark of 4:16.01 broke his own school record in earning the silver medal.
–The Girls 4×800 relay team of Chesna Tomko, Maggie Welty, Erin LeMay and Liz Simms placed fourth with a time of 9:33.82, which broke the Butler school record by nine seconds.
–The Girls 4×200 relay placed fifth with a time of 1:45.28. The team of Gabrielle Boden, Maddie Tonini, Chesna Tomko and Liz Simms medaled while breaking the old school record time of 1:47.01.
–The Boys Distance Medley Relay team of Jake Wolfrum, Brett Brady, Tim Porter and Noah Beveridge also medaled, capping off a highly successful season.
–Seneca Valley diver Katelyn Caccamo finished fourth overall in the WPIAL 3A championships Saturday. She moves on to the PIAA championships.
–Four Seneca Valley and two Mars wrestlers won Section-3 championships Saturday and move on to the WPIAl Championships. Also winning the 182 pound section title was Butler’s Christian Sequete.
–The Portersville Christian boys and girls basketball teams won the Southwest Christian Athletic Conference championships Saturday.
WPIAL Basketball Playoffs:
–The Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic girls (20-3) face Central Valley (17-5) tonight at Moon high school in the 4A semifinals. Tip-off is 6:30pm.
–The North Catholic boys (13-11) meet Seton-LaSalle (18-5) at 8pm (also at Moon) in the 3A semifinals.
–Tuesday – The Mars boys will face Trinity in the 5A semifinals. The game will be played at Baldwin high school beginning at 8pm.
–Wednesday – The Mars girls will meet Oakland Catholic at North Hills high school at 8pm in the 5A semifinals.
District-9 Basketball Playoffs:
–Karns City defeated Moniteau 40-32 Friday in the opening round. The Gremlins will meet Brookville in the District-9 championship game, still to be determined. Karns City is seeking their fifth straight title.
–The AC Valley girls will face Otto-Eldred in the D9 semifinals Wednesday at St. Mary’s high school. Tipoff will be 6pm.
