High School Golf
Mars senior Blake Bertolo had a good day at Champion Lakes Golf Course near Bolivar on Tuesday.
Not only did he qualify for the final round of the WPIAL Class 3A Championship on Oct. 6 at Allegheny Country Club by shooting a 5-over-par 76, but his round also included the first hole-in-one of his young career.
Bertolo was one of 38 players to advance to the final round.
Three players are tied for fourth at 3-over 74. They are Central Catholic senior Aiden Burchanti, Pine-Richland senior Blaise Masciantonio and Butler junior Hunter Swidzinski. Wyatt Kos from Butler also qualified shooting an 82

Butler 2, Seneca Valley 2
Knoch 5, Freeport 0 – Mason Nebel scored a hat trick, Caleb Oskin had a goal and an assist, and Sam Caldwell added a goal as Knoch shut out Freeport in Section 2-2A.
Mars 10, Armstrong 0 – Cade Coldiron scored four goals to help Mars past Armstrong in Section 1-3A.
Lathan Price and Jacob Callihan scored two goals each as Karns City earned an 8-0 win over Forest Area.
Colson Ritzert, Myles McCully, Mallick Metcalfe, and Hobie Bartoe had the other goals for the Gremlins.
Lucas Yasika had the clean sheet in net.
Girls Soccer
Lyrik Reed scored two goals and McKenna Martin and Emma Dailey one each as Karns City earned a 4-1 win over Forest Area.
Martin and Dailey each had an assist, as did Cece Morrow and Avah Burke.
HICKORY 1, SLIPPERY ROCK 0
With just 15 seconds left in double-overtime, Emmi Rossi scored to send Hickory to a 1-0 victory over Slippery Rock.
Volleyball
Four of the top WPIAL girls volleyball programs will meet Wednesday in a pair of nonsection games.
Three-time district champion Seneca Valley will battle defending 3A champion Freeport on tonight. The Yellowjackets have won district gold six times.
This fall, Seneca Valley is tied for second place in Section 1-4A behind defending champion North Allegheny, while Greensburg Central Catholic is a half-game behind Serra Catholic in Section 4A.
Freeport is in first place in Section 5-2A .
