Boys Basketball Saturday:
–Butler defeated Wheeling Central Catholic 84-65 in the Cancer Research Classic in Wheeling, West Virginia. Ethan Morton led the Tornado with 29. Devin Carney added 21.
–North Catholic defeated Our Lady of Sacred Heart 87-81 in the Don Graham Classic at North Catholic. Isaac Degregorio led the Trojans with 35. North Catholic girls defeated Keystone Oaks 54-46.
–Knoch defeated Deer Lakes 70-62. Scott Fraser led the Knights with 28.
The Butler high school indoor track and field teams competed in the season-opening meet at Edinboro Saturday. Jack Codispot won the pole vault. Sami Taoufik won the high jump. Ryan Marcella was the runner-up in the 200-meter run and fourth in the 60-meter dash. Dennis Goodwine was third in the shotput. Three Butler relay teams posted runner-up finishes.
For the Girls team – Gabby Boden was the runner-up in the 400. Chesna Tomko runner-up in the 800. Anna Baxter placed third in the 60-meter hurdles. Lucy Link was third in the Long Jump and fourth in the Triple Jump. The 4×800-meter relay team finished third.
Moniteau won District-9 Medium Division Competitive Cheer championship Saturday. The Lady Warriors had the highest score of the day of all divisions. They move on to the PIAA championships in Hershey January 11th and 12th.
Karns City were the runner-up in the Medium Division and also qualified for the state tournament.
