High School Sports:
Boys Basketball:
–Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic defeated Shady Side Academy 74-52 last night in the WPIAL 3A quarterfinals. The Trojans (13-11) will meet Seton-LaSalle (18-5) Monday in the semifinals. North Catholic are the two-time defending WPIAL champions.
Tonight:
–The Mars boys (18-4) will meet Hampton (11-12) in the WPIAL 5A quarterfinals. The game will be played at Butler high school. Tip-off is 8pm.
Girls Basketball:
–Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic topped Ambridge 49-42 in the WPIAL 4A quarterfinals. Kylee Lewandowski led North Catholic with 23 points, including four three-point shots in the come-from-behind win. The Lady Trojans (20-3) will meet Central Valley (17-5) Monday in the semifinal round.
–Mars (18-5) will meet Hampton (19-4) at North Hills high school Saturday in the 5A quarterfinals. Tipoff is 1:30pm.
–The Moniteau girls will host Karns City tonight in the opening round of the District-9 3A playoffs. The winner will meet top-seeded Brookville for the D9 championship.
Jonna Hill of Woodland Hills won the WPIBL Girls Singles championship Thursday at Sim’s Lanes in Beaver Falls. Butler’s Abby Kyle, Ashley McCue, Mercedes Belch and Nicole Nebel, along with Seneca Valley’s Maddie Ferringer have all qualified for the Pennsylvania Western Regional event in March.
