The High School Basketball season begins with a number of tournaments this weekend.
Butler high school will host a Round Robin tournament tonight and Saturday with the games being broadcast on the Butler Radio Network.
–Knoch will meet Youngstown Chaney tonight at 6:30pm. WISR pre-game is 6:15pm.
–Butler will face Woodland Hills at 8pm. WBUT pre-game is 7:45pm.
High School Sports Results from Thursday:
–The Seneca Valley Boys and Girls Bowling teams swept Mars Wednesday. The Seneca Valley Boys were led by Ryan Thoma, who rolled games of 259-236 & 238 for a 733 series.
–The Butler Rifle team defeated West Greene 798-790. Top shooters for Butler were Andrew Arbanas, Kayla Kopelic, Alec Stamm, Tyler Wenzel, Kolton Goss and Cody Stroup with 100’s.
–The Freeport Hockey team defeated Wheeling Catholic 7-3 last night. Cole Mitchell led the Yellow Jackets with two goals and an assist. Addison Stewart had a goal and two assists.
–The Butler Middle School Hockey team will visit Armstrong tonight at the Belmont Complex in Kittanning. The puck drops at 6:30pm.
Two western Pennsylvania teams won state football championships Thursday in Hershey.
–Thomas Jefferson won the 4A PIAA title with a 46-7 victory over Dallas.
–Farrell defeated Bishop Guilfoyle 10-7 in overtime to win the 1A championship. The Steelers won back-to-back state football titles for the second time in school history.
Four more championship games will be played this weekend at Hersheypark Stadium, including Avonworth facing Southern Columbia in the 2A title game today at 1pm.
Saturday – Central Valley will meet Wyoming in the 3A title game at noon.
