High School Sports:
Butler high school won the 2019 Co-ed Competitive Cheer state championship over the weekend in Hershey.
Moniteau was eliminated in the semi-final round in the medium division.
High Jumpers ruled the weekend for the Butler Track & Field teams over the weekend.
–On Friday at the Slippery Rock Indoor High School Invitational, Alexia Mechling won the High Jump. Her 5’5″ effort moved her to the #4 spot in the PA State Indoor Rankings.
–Saturday at the Tri-State Coaches Association meet at Edinboro University: Sami Taoufik won the High Jump with a season-best 6’4″ and moved into the state top five. Jack Codispot won the high jump with a clearance of 14-feet. The Boys 4×800 meter relay team of Skyler Vavro, Cade Gratzmiller, Ryder Kriley and Aden Dressler finished second. The Boys 4×400 relay team of Kriley, Gratzmiller, Isaiah Seybert and Guinness Brown also had a runner-up performance. Liz Simms made her season debut with a second in the 800-meters. The Girl’s 4×200 relay team of Simms, Emma Stewart, Chesna Tomko and Gabby Boden finished first as did the 4×400 relay team of Boden, Simms, Tomko and Anna Baxter.
Sunday in Boys basketball:
–Mars defeated New Castle 61-49 in the Ron Galbreath Classic at Westminster College.
–Neshannock defeated Shenango 51-46.
–The Mars 9th grade boys basketball team defeated Hampton over the weekend 61-55.
