Softball:
–The Karns City Gremlins won their second-straight District 5-9 3A championship with a 6-2 victory Wednesday over Everett in DuBois. Logan Byers went the distance for Karns City, allowing the two runs on seven hits over the seven innings. She did not walk a batter, and struck out four. The Gremlins move into the state playoffs and will meet the winner of today’s WPIAL 3A title game between Southmoreland and South Park.
–DuBois Central Catholic defeated AC Valley 9-1 Wednesday in the District-9 consolation game.
Baseball:
–North Hills defeated Mars 3-2 in 11-innings last night in Washington to win the WPIAL 5A championship. It was the first baseball championship for the Indians. Both teams move on to the state tournament next week.
–Canon-McMillan defeated North Allegheny 2-1 to win the 6A championship.
The Butler vs North Allegheny boys volleyball match has been set for Saturday at Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic high school. It is the PIAA quarterfinal round. The match begins at 3pm.
