High School Sports:
Baseball:
–The Butler Varsity team opened their regular season with an 18-1 victory over New Castle.
–Butler Junior Varsity defeated New Castle 12-3. Broch Tarcha did not allow a run over four innings, and struck out seven. Colin Patterson went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
–Neshannock defeated Grove City 13-3 in five innings.
–Armstrong-4 Ellwood City-1.
Girls Lacrosse:
–Knoch-21 Freeport-7.
–Pine-Richland-11 Peters Township-2.
Boys Volleyball:
–North Catholic-3 Trinity-1.
Butler Boys Track and Field opened up its season with a 125 to 25 victory over visiting Erie McDowell. They were lead by Ryan Marcella with 4 – 1st place finishes, 100, 200, anchoring the 4×100 relay and the Javelin.
Double winner was from Sami Taoufik winning the High and Triple Jumps.

Cade Gratzmiller – 800 meters

And Tyler Rekich – 300 meter hurdles

The Butler Girl’s Track & Field team opened their 2019 season Monday afternoon at the Butler High Stadium with a 111-39 victory over Erie McDowell. Gabby Boden led the way for the Golden Tornado with victories in 4 events – the 100, 200, 400 and 4×100 relay. Anna Baxter also won four events – the 100 Hurdles, 300 Hurdles, 4×100 relay and 4×400 relay. Chelsey Kabel won the 1600, 4×800 relay and 4×400 relay. Alexia Mechling won the high jump and Samantha Penrod was first in the pole vault. Heidi Gross was victorious in the Javelin, Megan Penrod won the Shot Put and Paris Johnson won the discus.
The Girl’s open WPIAL Class Triple-A Section play on Thursday at the Butler high Stadium against Pine-Richland and Knoch. Meet time is 3:45 PM.
