High School Sports:
–The Moniteau Baseball team defeated Coudersport 5-4 to win the District-9 2A championship Tuesday in DuBois. Jared Lominski hit a game-winning home run in the top of the seventh inning to win the game for the Warriors. It completed a comeback for Moniteau, who had fallen behind 4-0 by the second inning. Hunter Fitzingo pitched a complete game for the Warriors, striking out 10.
The game was stopped three times due to weather.
It is the third title in four years for Moniteau, who won the D-9 3A championship last year. They move into the PIAA tournament, and will face the WPIAL 2A winner in the First Round. Serra Catholic and Seton-LaSalle are playing in the WPIAL 2A title game this afternoon.
The Karns City Girls Softball team are scheduled to meet Clearfield tonight in the 3A championship game. It begins at 6pm in DuBois.
WPIAL Baseball:
–Mars fell to Franklin Regional 4-1 in the 5A consolation game, ending the Planets season.
–Shaler defeated Laurel Highlands 8-1 to win the 5A championship. It is the Titans first title in 20 years.
–Freeport will meet Keystone Oaks tonight in the 3A consolation game at Washington & Jefferson. Game time is 6:30pm.
–Pine-Richland will face Penn-Trafford in the 6A championship game at the Washington Wild Things Park at 7:30pm.
WPIAL Softball:
–The Knoch Knights defeated Thomas Jefferson 7-2 in the 4A consolation game, and earned a trip to the PIAA tournament.
The Mars and Pine-Richland Boys Lacrosse state playoff games were postponed. The Pine-Richland Girls were eliminated by Manheim Township 24-6.
