WPIAL Baseball Playoffs:
6A:
–North Allegheny defeated Hempfield 6-4 and will meet Canon-McMillan in the championship game next Wednesday. Canon-McMillan defeated Central Catholic 8-5.
5A:
–Mars will face Hampton today at North Allegheny high school in the semifinals. First pitch is 4pm. Hampton defeated Moon 9-1 yesterday.
A District 5-9 3A semifinal game will be played today at the old historic Pullman Park in Butler between Karns City and Moniteau. First pitch is 4pm.
–Grove City defeated Fort LeBoeuf in the District-10 4A quarterfinals 6-2 at Slippery Rock University.
Softball:
3A:
–Southmoreland defeated Freeport 6-4. The Yellow Jackets suffered their first loss of the season. They will meet Avonworth in the WPIAL consolation game next Tuesday.
District-9:
–AC Valley upset #2-seed Smethport 10-2 in the 1A first round Wednesday. Cami McNany and Emily Wetzel had four hits each for the Falcons, with McNany driving in seven runs. AC Valley will meet Coudersport in the semifinals.
–Cranberry eliminated Moniteau 8-1.
Boys Lacrosse:
–Mars defeated Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 20-5 yesterday in the WPIAL 2A semifinals. The Planets, who are the two-time defending champions, will meet Hampton tomorrow in the championship game at Robert Morris University.
Girls Lacrosse:
–Mars will face Franklin Regional in the WPIAL 2A consolation match today at 4:30pm at Robert Morris.
–Pine-Richland will meet Sewickley Academy tonight at 8pm in the 3A championship.
Boys Volleyball:
–Butler will meet Seneca Valley tonight at Baldwin high school in the WPIAL consolation match, which begins at 6pm.
