High School Sports:
Girls Basketball:
–Mars defeated Armstrong 51-37. Ava Black led Mars with 18 points.
–Gateway defeated Freeport 64-45.
–Moniteau-49 North Clarion-37. Aslyn Pry had a double-double to lead the Warriors with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Moniteau led 16-0 at the end of the first quarter, and 32-9 by halftime in the game.
–Grove City-52 Oil City-13.
Boys Basketball:
–Sharon-47 Slippery Rock-44.
The Butler Boys Basketball team will host Pine-Richland Saturday with a 4pm tip-off. Pre-game on WBUT will be 3:50pm.
The Butler Girls Bowling team led qualifying at the WPIBL Team Championships at Sims Lanes in Beaver Falls Thursday, but fell to Greensburg Salem 2-1 in the Championship match. Reegan Malis had the fifth-highest three-game series during qualifying with a 512. Grace Blank had the six-highest series with a 497. 10 Butler bowlers will compete in the league Singles championships next week.
The WPIAL Basketball playoff pairings will be announced Tuesday. The playoff format this year is an “open” tournament, with all schools eligible for only the second time in WPIAL history. 24 teams have chosen not to participate. The playoffs begin February 27th.
