High School Sports:
Baseball:
–Yough defeated Knoch 9-3 in Class 4A Section-1 play. The Knights had six different batters with hits – but mustered only the three runs in their first loss of the season. Guy DeLeonardis had two hits – including a double and scored a run. Sean McGill added two hits. Knoch will host Indiana Monday.
–Pine-Richland defeated Mars 8-3 in non-section play.
Softball:
–Butler-6 Fox Chapel-1.
–Knoch-12 Blackhawk-0 in five innings.
–Freeport-13 Valley-3 in five innings.
–Seneca Valley-5 North Hills-0.
–Mars-15 Oakland Catholic-0 in three innings.
–North Catholic-19 Beaver Falls-2 in two innings.
–Hempfield-4 Pine-Richland-0.
–North Allegheny-7 Norwin-3.
The Butler freshman team defeated Central Catholic 5-1.
Boys Volleyball:
–Shaler-3 Butler-1.
–Seneca Valley-3 Pine-Richland-0.
Girls Lacrosse:
–Freeport-8 Greensburg Salem-6. Mayce Wonderling scored all eight goals for the Yellow Jackets. Madison Ravotti had 18 saves for the win in goal.
The Butler Girls Track & Field team moved to 3-0 in section play with victories over North Hills 123-27 and Fox Chapel 105-45 Thursday night at Fox Chapel. Liz Simms won the 400 and 800 and also part of the winning 4×400 and 4×800 relay. Anna Baxter won the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Sarayne Forbes won the shot put and discus. Autumn Pettinato won the javelin and was part of the winning 4×800 relay as well as having a double in the Butler High Girl’s softball game. She got to participate in both sports – because both the track meet and softball game were at Fox Chapel. Samantha Penrod won the pole vault. The Butler Girl’s will attend the Knoch relays on Saturday before battling at North Allegheny on Tuesday.
