High School Sports:
–The Butler Golden Tornado football team defeated Erie 27-23 Friday night and finished with their first winning regular-season since 1997. Butler is 5-4 and will face McDowell in the District 10 championship game in two weeks.
The WPIAL Football Playoffs begin this week. Seneca Valley earned a first-round “bye” in Class 6A. North Catholic also earned a first-round “bye’ in Class 3A.
–Freeport will host Ambridge in the 3A First Round Friday.
WPIAL Soccer Playoffs:
–The Butler Boys were eliminated by Peters Township Saturday 4-2.
–Seneca Valley defeated Allderdice 1-0 and have reached the Class 4A Semifinals. The Raiders will face Fox Chapel Tuesday.
–The North Catholic Boys will meet Charleroi tonight at West Mifflin high school in the 2A Semifinals. The match begins at 8pm.
–North Catholic defeated Yough 4-0 to reach the Girls 2A Semifinals. The Trojanettes will meet Shady Side Academy Tuesday.
–The Seneca Valley Girls will meet Fox Chapel tonight in the 4A Semifinals. The game begins at 6pm at North Allegheny high school.
The Freeport and North Catholic Girls Volleyball teams won their WPIAL Quarterfinal round matches Saturday.
