72 teams will attend the 54th annual Butler Invitational track and field event beginning at 12:15pm Friday at the Butler high school. Final events on the track should begin between 4:30 and 5pm tomorrow.
Pitt has hired former Florida State associate head coach Lance White as their new women’s basketball coach. White has been with the Seminoles the past 15 seasons. He takes over a Pitt program that went 10-20 last season.
Hampton graduate Ryan Luther has committed to Arizona. Luther will leave the Pitt program has a graduate transfer and will be eligible next season.
Former Pitt head basketball coach Jamie Dixon has agreed to a two-year contract extension to remain at TCU through the 2023-24 season.
Former Aliquippa head football coach Mike Zmijanac has been hired to take over the Ringgold program. Zmijanac was fired by Aliquippa two months ago. He is one of the most successful coaches in WPIAL history, winning six WPIAL titles and a state championship, and has a 237-36 overall record over 21 seasons as a head coach.
Slippery Rock University lost a doubleheader to Bloomsburg Wednesday, falling 12-5 and 8-4. The Rock’s Tyler Walters hit a home run in the first game, and has tied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference all-time record with 45 in his career. The senior slugger from Saegertown leads his team with nine home runs this year, and has four in his last six games. The Rock fell to 19-11 overall.
