High School Sports:
The Butler high school Wrestling team won the Southmoreland Winter Classic Dual Tournament Saturday. The final match victory over Greensburg Salem 51-18 clinched the tournament. Cooper Baxter was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler with five falls in the event.
Boys Basketball Saturday:
–Butler defeated Erie 86-78. Devin Carney scored 39 points to lead the Golden Tornado. Mattix Clement added 20 points.
–McDowell defeated Pine-Richland 66-60.
–Central Catholic downed North Catholic 48-25.
–Seneca Valley defeated North Hills 82-75. The Raiders hit 12 3-point shots in the game.
Girls Basketball Saturday:
–North Catholic defeated Blackhawk 57-38 in the Don Graham Classic Saturday. Dacia Lewandowski netted 23 to lead the Lady Trojans.
–Bethel Park-61 Seneca Valley-36. Olivia West scored 16 to lead the Raiders.
The Chartiers Valley state record winning streak came to an end at 64 Saturday when the Colts lost to Trinity 49-42. It was the first loss for the Char Valley Girls since they loss in the opening round of the state tournament in March of 2018.
On Friday night – The Butler Boys fell to North Allegheny 85-62. Mars pounded Indiana 79-33 Mihali Sfanos netted 20 to lead the Planets. North Catholic topped Burrell 62-43. Baldwin defeated Seneca Valley 81-63. Bethel Park-51 Grove City-49.
