Hiroko Zang, age 76, of Butler, a survivor of the 1945 Hiroshima atomic bomb attack, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends, at her residence on Tues., Feb. 15, 2022. She fought a courageous battle against cancer.
Hiroko was born in Hiroshima, Japan, on Sept.15, 1945, just weeks after the catastrophic atomic bomb attack on the city.
She was employed for 23 years as a picker at Moonlight Mushrooms.
She was a member of All Saints Parish, Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
Hiroko was a member of Sakura Kai (Japanese Women’s Association), and she loved gardening, cooking, and karaoke parties.
She is survived by her husband, Robert A. Zang, Sr., to whom she was married for 56 years; four children, Janet Krepps and her husband, Shawn, of Beaver County, Patricia Pearson and her husband, Matthew, of Butler, Tresia Zang and her significant other, Dan Gray, of Butler, and Robert A. Zang, Jr. and his wife, Maura, of Wexford; five grandchildren, Austin Pearson, Chloe Zang, Jackson Zang, Trae Zang and Kai Zang; one sister, Ikue Kawashima, of Japan; and one brother, Kadzuki Kawashima, of Japan.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
There will be no visitation.
Private funeral services were held by the family, with burial taking place in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Ave., Butler.
