An upcoming Butler County Historical Society event will give community members a chance to bid a familiar face a fond farewell as well as welcome a new employee of the organization.
The group will hold an open house on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Senator Walter Lowrie House for the retirement of Director Pat Collins which will be official on Friday.
“I’m going near my daughters and granddaughters in Maryland,” Collins said about her retirement plans.
Collins began as an employee of the Historical Society in 2010 and is open to helping out remotely from her new home in Maryland if there are questions during the transition period.
“I believe anybody in a position like I’m in, no matter what organization that is, after eight to ten years you should move on,” Collins said. “That way you get new ideas, fresh energy, and a new way to look at things.”
The process to hire a permanent replacement Director is currently underway but until then, new employee Sara Donaldson will fill-in on a temporary basis. Donaldson was recently hired the fill the newly created position of Education Outreach Coordinator.
Light refreshments including cookies will be available at the free event on Thursday.
