Residents are still working on cleaning up debris after yesterday’s storms packed a powerful punch.
Strong storms began rolling in around 11 a.m. yesterday. The first round of storms hit in the Slippery Rock area, bringing heavy rain and wind gusts that hit over 50 miles per hour at times. That prompted the National Weather Service to call for a severe thunderstorm warning.
The storms then continued throughout the afternoon, knocking down trees and wires all over the county.
At one point there were more than 8,000 homes in the county without power. As of 1 p.m., that number was just over 100 between First Energy and Central Electric. It also kept first responders busy with the Butler County 911 Center handled more than 70 calls related to storm damage.
