Congressman Mike Kelly is touting a bill that looks to rescind new IRS funding that would lead to more agents.
The House of Representatives passed the bill on a party-line vote this week—the first bill passed by the new Congress.
This had been a campaign promise of the Republicans, who were looking to repeal $80 billion in funding for around 87,000 new IRS agents over the next decade. Those in favor of the bill said the IRS needed more employees to help target tax enforcement for those with higher wages.
Kelly meanwhile says that the IRS is a “service agency, not a shakedown agency that audits lower-and-middle class Americans.”
The bill, however, is not expected to pick up much traction in the Democratic-led Senate.
