An election reform bill is on its way to the state Senate after passing the House of Representatives.
There are a number of major overhauls in the bill that would alter how Pennsylvania administers its election—including requiring voter ID.
“Really what I heard from my constituents was voter ID. When you get a COVID test you have to show your ID; when you get the vaccine you have to show your ID; when you check into a hotel you have to show your ID,” Republican State Representative Marci Mustello of Butler said. “There should be no argument that when you go vote, you should show your ID.”
Those voting against the bill say voter ID is a form of voter suppression.
Other changes include allowing counties to pre-canvass mail-in ballots, moving voter registration and mail-in deadlines, along with more provisions.
Governor Wolf has said that he will veto the bill in its current form.
