Howard R. Langston, 98, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on November 28, 2022, at the Newhaven Court at Clearview.
He was born September 12, 1924, in Bonnor Springs, Kansas to the late Hyram R. Langston and the late Vera Compton Langston.
Howard attended Carnegie Mellon. He served from 1943 – 1945 in the U.S. Army Air Corps. – 8th Air Force, in England, flying on the B-17 Bomber, Aircraft “Togglier”. Howard retired from Butler Armco in 1984, after 37 years in the Engineering Department. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Butler, PA, where he also was a Sunday School Teacher, Church Treasurer for many years, and past member of Official Board. Howard was a member of Armco Golf Club, Butler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Perpetual Motion Running Club. He was an avid golfer up until the age of 93.
Howard is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Frederick) Graff of Butler, PA; three grandchildren, Brian F. Graff, Chad E. (Melissa) Graff, and Heather Langston; one sister, Doris (John) Sherwood of Tuscon, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Mainhart Langston, who passed away on August 20, 1995; second wife, Christine Volchko, who passed away on March 15, 2006; one son, Howard Langston, Jr.; and one brother, Stanley C. Langston.
Friends will be received Monday, December 5, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor David Janz, officiating.
Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.
